Canon Name: TMNT 2003 Series
AU Description: Leonardo/Meiyo was raised and named by Karai and The Shredder instead of Splinter

Personality: In the original canon Leonardo is a highly focused fighter, and the de facto leader of his team of brothers. He spends the vast majority of his time training in order to to keep his brothers in line and to protect the family. He's taken on the role of the eldest brother because of these actions. While he has questioned his abilities he has never questioned who he was and what his role in the family was, nor has he ever questioned if it was his right to assume that role or not
Meiyo however, when he was found by Karai, was obviously younger than her and as such was placed in the role of the baby brother. At least in terms of his relationship with her. As for his relationship with the man he sees as his father...
The Shredder saw him as nothing more than a pet, and often treated him as such. Meiyo's role in the family was chosen for him. While Leonardo had chosen his himself.
Because of this Meiyo doesn't have the confident core to his personality that Leo has. Instead he's a confused mess of insecurity. Praised for his fighting ability, his obedience and loyalty, and yet forever looked down on as a pet by all but Karai when Leo was looked up to and favoured. If it wasn't for his natural tenaciousness he would have broken completely from these mind games.
Instead Meiyo focused on earning his place in the clan as Karai's brother and The Shredder's son. Pushing himself just as hard as Leo did in canon to become the best fighter possible. And despite the clan twisting the truth he also strived to live to the name Karai had given him. “Meiyo” one of the codes of Bushido: Honour.
But under this surface of Honour and skill Meiyo is still confused and conflicted. Leading him to have a powerful temper that's buried under all the control and enforced servitude.
A temper that's becoming more visible now with his control shaken from learning that he would never, ever have earned his place as The Shredder's son. This was made worse because he lost his father at the same time leaving him lost with no chance of closure. He's also unable to seek solace from his sister for she too was grieving him. He had always clung to The Shredder's lies and Karai's care when he'd been left questioning himself and now he had no answers leaving Meiyo lost and confused.
Much like Leonardo's temper in the forth season which was made worse after his defeat in Exodus as it shook his confidence in his abilities to protect and lead his family as he should.
Unlike Leonardo, Meiyo doesn't have anyone to guide him out of the dark place his traumatic upbringing has sent him mentally. He has to struggle with his confusion and frustration as it disrupts his usually intense focus alone. He falls back on his manners and training as a the honourable warrior he wants to be to hide the fact he no longer knows who he truly is any more.
Abilities: Meiyo is a ninja, he's highly skilled in most forms of combat and specialises in Swords play along with stealth/assassination. His preferred weapons are his twin Ninjato blades followed by throwing stars, kusarigama and bow and arrows, but he prides himself on being able to use almost any weapon he can get his hands on.
